Faces have always fascinated me. There is something uncanny about the way you can learn so much, and yet so little, about a person by looking at their face. A person’s face contains many cues that let others pick out information on their race, gender, age, health, and even the kind of life they have lived. The information we gather from these cues lead us to make certain inferences about the person we are observing, although of course these inferences are only part of the story of who a person is, and they could be completely wrong. And yet faces mean so much to us.
To me the variety of human nose shape alone is amazing, not to mention skin color, face shape, skin texture, bone structure, eye shape… (the list could go on and on). What is perhaps even more amazing is the way in which one can manipulate these features, almost like an optical illusion, through the use of makeup. Makeup, to me, is a medium of art that can be used for self expression. Just as you chose what clothes to wear each morning, you can chose how, when, and whether to wear your makeup.
